Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

At A Better Chance Recovery, our Partial Hospitalization Program is a more unique alternative to traditional addiction treatment programs. While we still provide the same type of care needed to get sober, PHP programs, also known as day treatment programs, allow you to either live at home or a structured sober living home. If you are someone who is currently addicted to drugs or alcohol, you likely know firsthand just how difficult it is to try and stop your substance abuse. Addiction doesn’t just affect your physical and mental health, it also causes serious changes in how your brain works. These changes to your brain are what make addiction so difficult to overcome. In order to stop abusing substances, and help heal the damage that addiction inflicts, many people benefit from a partial hospitalization program. Learn more about our PHP today.

What Is A Partial Hospitalization Program?

A partial hospitalization program, also known as a day treatment program, is the most intensive form of outpatient addiction treatment. Those in a PHP receive treatment during the day but do not have to stay at the facility overnight. Instead, patients live and sleep at home or in a sober living house in the vicinity. Though this type of programming is outpatient, PHPs still include a high level of structure and support. In fact, PHPs are typically conducted in a medical or clinical setting. Patients attend treatment 3 to 5 days a week and spend the majority of the day participating in support groups and therapeutic modalities.

Some patients come to a PHP program after completing an inpatient program, as a “step down” in addiction treatment. Others may begin their journey with a PHP, or be admitted due to experiencing a relapse that requires more intensive treatment.

Types of Treatment at Our Partial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program uses a wide array of addiction treatments in order to ensure that each individual gets the care they need. Depending on your needs, your treatment may involve one or more of the following programs:

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy involves one-on-one sessions with a therapist or counselor. There are many different kinds of individual therapy. The one most commonly utilized in addiction treatment is cognitive-behavioral therapy or CBT. This type of therapy focuses on helping people to recognize the situations, behaviors and emotions that trigger their drug use. Individual therapy also provides the tools to help avoid or cope with these things.

Group Therapy

Group therapy, whether part of a 12-step program or not, is a great asset in addiction treatment. Being in a group of people who have similar experiences with addiction and recovery helps patients feel less alone. It also helps boost confidence in their ability to succeed. It also gives them a place to talk about their personal experiences and struggles in a non-judgmental, supportive space.

Family Therapy

If your addiction has had an impact on your family, our PHP offers family therapy as part of our programming. Family therapy helps to heal the damage your addiction may have caused. It also strengthens the family bond and helps create a strong support network for your recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Program – IOP

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) helps people overcome an addiction to drugs or alcohol on an outpatient level. Part of what makes an intensive outpatient program desirable is that it allows patients to live at home while receiving addiction treatment. Even with this level of freedom, IOPs still provide a range of effective addiction treatment advantages. At ABC Recovery, our Intensive Outpatient Program helps individuals find the strength needed to heal.

What Is Intensive Outpatient Programming?

Intensive Outpatient Programming is a treatment that takes place in a professional facility during the daytime or evening. The number of days and hours per day someone attends IOP depends on the individual’s needs, determined by the treatment provider. IOP provides an effective way to treat conditions like substance use disorders and mental illness. It works well for clients who do not need to be in an inpatient or residential program but still need a concentrated amount of time per week to work on their recovery. They can attend their treatment sessions during the day or attend an evening IOP program and still return home at night.

Our intensive outpatient program in Atlanta typically offers a higher level of care than what other outpatient-type addiction treatment programs offer. For example, most levels of care take place at a hospital or clinic, though some may be offered at private doctor’s offices. Then patients in an intensive outpatient program typically visit the facility for treatment three to four days a week. Each IOP visit typically lasts for about three hours each visit. Your individual recovery plan will vary depending on what best suits your needs. Your intensive outpatient may involve any of the following:

Group Therapy

For most IOPs, group therapy is the most commonly utilized treatment for patients. Many studies have found that group therapy is a highly effective way to help those with substance use disorders get clean and avoid future relapses. It does this by helping them to learn better ways to communicate, build a strong support network, provide a positive way to socialize, and reinforce healthy new habits.

Individual Therapy

While individual therapy is not the primary focus of IOPs, it is still available for patients who need it. Moreover, it is an effective way to help people dig deeper into their own personal reasons for their addiction. It also addresses any underlying mental health issues someone may be dealing with.

Holistic Therapy

Some IOPs also offer what is called holistic therapy and holistic rehab. This type of therapy promotes the mind, body, and spirit, and treats each individual as a whole. Holistic therapy modalities incorporate, yoga, meditation, art therapy, and more into our treatment programming.

Family Therapy

Family therapy can be an extremely powerful tool in aiding in addiction recovery. While the identified person in treatment is typically the one who meets with a therapist and participates in group, the entire family system often needs help and support. The negative consequences of addiction are often felt by family, friends, spouses, children, and parents. At ABC Recovery, we integrate family therapy into our IOP programming.

Outpatient Drug Rehab – OP

When people who struggle with addiction to drugs or alcohol consider getting treatment, one of their main concerns is how much time drug rehab will take. ABC Recovery’s outpatient rehab provides an option that lets individuals receive treatment for a substance use disorder without moving into an inpatient facility or a hospital. We teach people to understand why they developed an addiction and how to recover from it. They can receive this valuable care all while still enjoying the convenience of living in their own homes.

What is Outpatient Drug Rehab?

Recovery programs for substance use disorders fall into two categories: inpatient and outpatient. Inpatient programs involve a person living in a residential facility or hospital around the clock during treatment. Most of them require a person to live in the facility for thirty days or more.

Outpatient drug rehab programs allow a person to live at home while attending valuable treatment during the day. Treatment can last from a few weeks to several months, depending on the person’s needs and progress made. The amount of time required by outpatient programs depends on which program a person attends. It can range anywhere from one to seven days a week, and from a few hours a day to several hours. Outpatient rehab is best suited for those who do not need to be in a residential facility all day and also have a strong, positive support system in their home life.

Our outpatient rehab provides things like individual, group, or family and couples’ therapy. Our goal is to provide education that teaches people how to better understand their addiction. We aim to provide a support network to help patients resist the urge to relapse. Whether attending treatment in person or via telehealth, outpatient programs are a vital step that can work as a person’s sole approach to recovery from addiction or as part of a step-down program after completing residential treatment.
